Message From The Founder
mam

Nurturing is the essence of my being so naturally all children and especially those in distress and suffering are very dear to my heart. So, Immediately after my retirement from Delhi University l started to do my bit to serve many young ones in need of care . I set up Shubhakshika Educational Society to academically and socially facilitate the marginalised children. I am grateful to my team that supports me tirelessly in bringing smiles to the children who bloom and blossom in the NGO .

Our Success Stories
Kamlesh (Name changed)

Kamlesh (Name changed)

Kamlesh faced the issue of gender identity, maybe due to his abduction by a transgender in his childhood. Kamlesh, a biological male, wanted to change due to the influence of the Transgender community who made him feel important. Kamlesh began to open up through a series of personalised and family counselling sessions. He was always told that he was free to convert but only if he actually wanted. Now Kamlesh has refused to convert and is focused on his future.

Rahul (Name changed)

Rahul was found bagging at Badli metro station. He belonged to a family of professional beggars. It was a challenge to bring the child to centre but aggressive counselling and perseverance resulted in success. The NGO could not only change the child but also convinced his family to take up a respectable job. We generated the seed money for an e-rickshaw with the help of Bharat Vikas Parishad. The boy’s father now owns and drives an e-rickshaw to earns his living.

Mohit (Name changed)

Mohit, a 17-year-old boy from the slums of Shahbad Dairy, was previously involved in drug abuse in 2023. He lives with his mother, who works in a factory, and his siblings. One brother is employed in lift repair, while another has left home. The family continues to face financial difficulties. On Friday, Mohit discovered an iPhone XR in a hospital in Rohini. He took the phone and returned it to school, where he handed it over to Mr. Gautam, the students' mobilizer. Thanks to MF's quick thinking and moral judgment, we were able to locate the phone's owner after a full day of efforts. We are proud of the positive changes Mohit has shown and his dedication to doing what is right. The following day, we honored his integrity and effort by applauding him during the school assembly, recognizing his commendable actions and boosting his morale.

Monu (Name changed)

Monu, a highly intelligent boy currently enrolled in 10th grade, was identified at the age of approximately 12-14 years while he was working as a rag picker. His father has passed away, and his mother is employed as a factory worker. Monu is suffering from cerebral palsy. He cannot use his right limbs properly. He has difficulty in walking. But he is very intelligent and is determined to make a successful career for himself. On account of his poverty he is not able to afford many essentialities. We have assisted him in obtaining his disability certificate which entitles him to a pension from the Delhi government. We wish him the best and promise to stand by him always.

Shelter Home for Street Children

Determined to make a difference in the lives of destitute children, we have set up an Open Shelter Home to provide them care, protection, and a healthy and happy environment. These children include beggars, rag- pickers, small vendors, orphaned, deserted, run-away and other vulnerable children. Besides giving them food, clothing, medical care and basic education, we also counsel them to bring about behavioural changes.

Vocational Training

We have been imparting vocational training to make the beneficiaries self-reliant. Some of the popular skills that have been taught are Cookery, Textile Designing, Beauty Culture, Mobile Repair, Retail Management, Data-entry Computer Course, and Cutting and Tailoring (for women). We have also provided vocational training to women in Nari Niketan and children in Delhi-govt.-run children homes.

Girl Child Project

Resonating with the national objective of 'Beti padhao beti bachao' campaign, we started the Girl Child Project in 2016. The programme aims at providing opportunities for education and employment to girls who have been treated as liabilities in their families and immediate surroundings. It is a matter of pleasure to report that the number of enrolment is increasing every year.

Education for all

We believe that education is the foundation for leading a happy and fulfilled life. With this objective in mind we have been imparting value-creating education to needy children since 2001. We are happy to share that so far, we have provided basic education to more than 15,000 children with most of them inducted into formal education system after completing the bridge course. In 2006, we expanded the project to include orphans, beggars and other destitute children who were deprived of this opportunity. We also reached out to children in conflict with law in observations homes, and offered after-release back-up classes after their release or acquittal. We strive to tap the inherent potential of these children to bring about a positive change in their lives.

De-addiction Programme

Observing that many of the boys in the Open Shelter Home were involved in substance abuse, we have initiated a project to wean children off this harmful habit. It is encouraging to see that many of these children give up addiction through love, care and activities that engage them at physical, mental and emotional levels.
